Miracle earthquake baby reunited with mother after 54 days

A two month old baby who was found alive under rubble in the deadly Turkey earthquake has finally been reunited with her mother after spending 54 days apart. The baby's mother was initially believed to have died during the earthquake, but it was later discovered in a nearby hospital.

The earthquakes in February 2023 claimed the lives of thousands of people and left countless others injured and homeless. Amidst the chaos and destruction, a baby girl was found alive in the rubble of a collapsed building having survived for over 120 hours. The baby was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where she was cared for by medical staff.

However, no one knew who the baby belonged to, and her identity remained a mystery for over a month. Meanwhile, her mother, who had been separated from her during the earthquake, was frantically searching for her. As part of the efforts by Turkey’s family and social services ministry, to find unidentified minors without family, the baby’s DNA sample matched with the woman, known now as Yasemin Begdaş.

The baby, Vetin Begdas was flown in a private plane to Adana City Hospital, where she was reunited with her mother after almost two months apart.

Many thousands more families have been devastated and separated from loved ones. We are raising funds to donate for the Turkey-Syria earthquake appeal.
